Find The Perfect Coffee Table

It’s probably one of the cheapest pieces of furniture that you will need but it will be the centre piece of your room so choosing the right coffee table is essential.

Before deciding on your dream coffee table, you will probably have to consider both the room colour, the other furniture and contents. If you have a dark gloomy room with lots of dark colours and limited natural light then you may want to consider a light wood coffee table such as pine or light oak. Whilst oak is usually slightly more expensive, it tends to wear better and take the ineivitable tea stains with a bit more character.

If you have plenty of natural light and are looking to use darker colours then your best bet would be either dark oak, walnut or mango. All of these woods have a beautiful texture but our recommendation would be Mango. This wood has lots of texture and colours in the grain which work very well furniture items with expansive surfaces.

Another option which works well with almost any amount of natural light is the glass coffee table. You won’t have the worry of damaging the wood but you will need to make sure the glass is kept nice and clean as tea stains don’t look good, even if you can wipe them away!

The final question is the dimensions that will fit your room. The key feature of a coffee table as a centrepiece is that the surface is easily available from any seat in your lounge or living room and typically at a height which is marginally subordinate. One good test is to measure the length and height of your sofa and armchairs, minus any arm rests and use this to estimate the size required.
